Repurposed with a purpose…

I enjoy repurposing…I can’t stand to let a good piece of clothing or fabric go when I could surely see myself using it for “something” even though I may not quite know what! It ends up resulting in a lot of space being taken up by future “projects” lol. I decided I’d to get one done not too long ago with a pair of pinstriped capri’s. I get a lot of hand me downs, and I frequent area yard and garage sales. But these were really cute and sadly, did not fit me. I had high hopes to fit into them one day, but those hopes did not seem to be materializing any time soon (sigh)…so I had been wanting to make a vendor apron for a while. In my recent gift of fabric from my dear Aunt, there was a cute contrasting yellow fabric I thought would match well…so off I went.

It’s a pretty basic vendor apron. I have one large pocket, one smaller side pocket. The larger pocket has an inner zipper pocket for cash or secret stash. And then I added the contrasting pen pocket on the outside. I think it came out okay. It was my first one, and I was pretty much winging it with no pattern, just sewing and cutting and cutting and sewing. But overall, I’m happy with it. Repurposed with a purpose. I love giving new life into something that otherwise may have been wasted. =)

New home…

My mom and I have this thing…when we’re at the craft fair we tend to get separation issues when our items sell.  Does this happen to you?  You put a lot of thought, time, work and mostly love into everything you make.  And while thrilled that someone loves it as much as you do, that only means you have to let it go.  We joke about it, but it’s so true – especially when my mom makes those really cute sock animals that she makes.  Anyhow, I did a few project recently for a friend of mine, and this past weekend I got to go to her house (to pick up more projects to work on!) and got to see the new home of the things that I spent many late nights working on at my sewing machine.  Needless to say, they look so different in the environment they were made for, than on my living room floor, haha.  I was thrilled at how lovely everything turned out.  And, on top of that, I got a lot more work out of it.  Between my full time job, my part time job, taking little kira to Karate classes, being a Girl Scout Leader for my daughter’s troop and trying to run a side business – I really need to get moving here.  The holidays are going to be here before you know it, I mean look – it’s already JUNE!

At least I know that it will be going to a lovely new home, as we know all our things do.  It’s nice to see the love you put into something being loved, used and enjoyed by someone else.  After all, what other reason is there?

Hope to make time to work on new projects…

I know everyone out there has things they want to do, but are just so busy, tired, etc.  I have so many ideas, things in my mind and I read so much about how if you want to do something, you make the time.  But man, when that bed is calling my name, when that TV show has me hooked, I find a hard time focusing on those ideas in my head.  It’s lame, I know.  I really hope to get going on some projects.  Anyone working on anything big?
